The Dialogue.
Maybe after nearly a year and half of not going anywhere, we were getting a little rusty at travel; we forgot our day bag at home. Thankfully, we were only a mile away when we came to this embarrassing realization.
First stop was breakfast at the Strawberry Patch Cafe in Everett. The place is adorable. There is the requisite fruit motif throughout but there were also the old-fashioned diner banquettes and a profusion of rainbow everywhere, from the plates and mugs to the strings of paper tassels separating the dining alcoves. This seemed like a good start.
The music in the restaurant was so loud that the surly waitress admitted that she wasn’t sure whether I wanted coffee so she brought me some anyhow. Speaking of coffee. It was so watered down that it would have taken a gallon of the stuff to get a buzz.
The food was just above edible. Bob, the potato connoisseur, could not get through his hash browns; it if wasn’t burnt black in places, it was raw in others. This would be like me turning down rice. Unthinkable! The chive biscuits (their claim to fame) were dense and flavorless; Bob remarked that it was like eating a nerf ball. I can attest as my breakfast choice was paltry and needed part of Bob’s dish for some bulk.
We both agreed that eatery’s saving grace was that the over easy eggs were cooked over easy.
You have me intrigued! I want to take a day trip! Looks like they have some cool stuff to see!!
If you aren’t going on a whale-watching tour, a day trip is all you need. I think our three-day-two-night staycation was a little too long! Might have worked if we started on San Juan Island and moved eastward to the other major islands (i.e. Orcas Island, Lopez Island). Remember that you pay for the ferry ride every time you travel westward but free when you go towards the east.
