We were literally rolling in our seats as we tried to describe what the sound of their squeaking bike brakes reminded us of. A goat in labor? An orgasming dolphin? The pair of retired guys who had parked next to us in the Ridgeline Trail – Fox Hollow Trailhead parking lot (just opposite the yet to open Cascades Raptor Center) decided, after considerable debate, to first attempt the downhill path before trying the more demanding uphill one. Eeeeek. Eeeeeek. Eeeeeeek. If ever there was a concern about being mauled by a wild bear or cougar, it would not have happened that morning.
There is nothing as mesmerizing as seeing wildlife up close and personal, especially if they could only have been previously admired from afar. The goals of the non-profit nature center and wildlife hospital was “to create awareness and respect, and to foster care of the wild world” and “care for these (orphaned, sick, and injured) birds using the highest standards of medical treatment and husbandry possible”.
